TakeOver: WarGames 2018’s gonna rule

There’s only two episodes of NXT after tonight’s before the black-and-yellow brand will break out the two ring set-up in Staples Center on Sat., Nov. 17 for TakeOver: WarGames 2018. So General Manager William Regal had to get busy lining up matches for Los Angeles.

The first two were relatively easy. Regal informed Cathy Kelley he’d selected Velveteen Dream as Tommaso Ciampa’s next challenger. Lars Sullivan’s not happy about it, but Dream’s actually been around, winning matches against name stars and getting under the NXT champ’s skin. Plus, he’s pretty much officially a face now.

When the warpath Aleister Black was on in search of Johnny Gargano took him into the middle of Kelley’s interview, Regal informed Black he’ll get his chance to take out Gargano the way Johnny took him out in the parking lot in August – when they go one-on-one at TakeOver.

The last match announced tonight has a more convoluted set-up, but the main thing you need to know from tonight is that War Raiders didn’t want to wait for their scheduled match to start, so they attacked Undisputed ERA backstage. When Adam Cole, Roderick Strong, Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly used their numbers advantage on Hanson & Rowe, first Ricochet and then Pete Dunne joined the Raiders to even the odds. Mr. Regal wasn’t having it, and the next live special is called “WarGames” so…

No word yet on if Ricochet’s North American title, Pete Dunne’s United Kingdom one, or Strong & O’Reilly’s tag belts will be on the line, but this feels like more of a grudge match then a championship fight.

These are our three official matches:

  • Tommaso Ciampa (c) vs. Velveteen Dream for the NXT title
  • Johnny Gargano vs. Aleister Black
  • Undisputed ERA vs. War Raiders, Ricochet & Pete Dunne in WarGames

We also saw Kairi Sane try to confront Shayna Baszler after Evolution, and got this fallout video of Kassius Ohno mocking both Keith Lee and Matt Riddle. Plus there’s the lingering issues between Nikki Cross and Bianca Belair, and Candice LeRae didn’t look happy that Cross ratted out her husband to Black, either.

No matter how they round out the card from here, though, it looks pretty clear…

NXT TakeOver: WarGames 2018 is gonna rule.
