XFL announces cities & host venues for 2020 launch

In a live streamed press conference this afternoon (Weds., Dec. 5), Alpha Entertainment Founder (and WWE Chairman & CEO) Vince McMahon and XFL Commissioner Oliver Luck revealed the locations of the eight teams who will make up the relaunched league in 2020.

Repeating much of the rhetoric from his video announcement about the XFL’s return earlier this year, McMahon opened the session. He revealed the first games would be help on Sat., Feb. 8 and Sun., Feb. 9, 2020 – the weekend after Miami hosts the NFL’s 54th Super Bowl. The podium then went to Luck to unveil each of the XFL cities and host venues. After a video consisting of local iconography played, a representative from the local government bodies overseeing sports & events spoke to play up how excited they were to be a part of the new league.

You can see the event in full via the video embedded below. If you just want a list of cities and stadia, XFL 2.0 games will consist of teams in…

  • Dallas (Globe Life Park, Arlington)
  • Houston (John O’Quinn Field at TDECU Stadium)
  • Los Angeles (Stub Hub Center, Carson)
  • New York/New Jersey (MetLife Stadium)
  • St. Louis (The Dome at America’s Center)
  • Seattle (Century Link Field)
  • Tampa Bay (Raymond James Stadium)
  • Washington, D.C. (Audi Field)

From here, the league will roll out announcements about team presidents, coaches and players, in addition to mascots/logos. Online, the XFL is already hyping the work being done by their “Football Operations” team to deliver a more streamlined, entertaining on-field product.

McMahon has stressed repeatedly this version of the XFL will not cross-over with or involve WWE. It is supposedly not designed to compete with the NFL, but will have a direct competitor in the Allliance of American Football. That league is scheduled to start operations in 2019.

The XFL hasn’t announced any specific broadcast or media plans as of yet.
