Tribute to the Troops returns, but maybe not to television

Given how many events WWE was cramming into their 2018 fall schedule, I probably wasn’t alone in wondering if maybe Tribute to the Troops would be happening at all this year.

The company removed any doubt yesterday when they announced the 16th annual edition of the show honoring America’s military servicepeople. The details came a little later than usual (last year’s came the day after Survivor Series; 2016’s was announced in October) – and they still don’t mention when or if next Tuesday’s version of TttT will be televised. The 2017 show was broadcast as part of USA Network’s “WWE Holiday Week”, which also featured the broadcast debut of NXT, a week and a half after taping.

Last year also included Superstars from Raw and SmackDown. The announcement doesn’t mention who will be performing at Fort Hood in Texas next week, but the blue brand has their usual Tuesday night live TV in Austin. That’s only a little more than an hour away by car, and there’s no mention of when the in-ring portions of Tribute will go down. So it’s possible some SmackDown stars could do both, but we can’t tell from the announcement.

Speaking of which, here’s that:

“The 16th annual WWE Tribute to the Troops will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Fort Hood, Texas. This is the second time Fort Hood has hosted The Most Patriotic Show of the Year, first serving as host in 2010.

While in Fort Hood, Superstars will spend time giving back to military personnel and their families stationed on base. Activities include a Be a STAR bullying prevention rally, as well as hospital visits and military outreach initiatives at various installations across the base.

WWE Tribute to the Troops began in 2003 to honor our servicemen and women and their families. In the tradition of Bob Hope, WWE brings together the best of sports, entertainment and pop culture with celebrity appearances and performances from music’s most popular acts in what is considered TV’s most patriotic and heartwarming show of the year.”

Normally, I’d ask if folks were excited for the show, but unless you’re stationed at Fort Hood I don’t even know if you’ll ever see it. The Starrcade special was said to be a hit for the Network, so maybe WWE puts it there eventually if USA isn’t interested this year, for whatever reason?

Guess I’ll ask… are you hoping to be able to see some of Tribute to the Troops ‘18 at some point?
