In a not terribly surprising move, Impact Wrestling yesterday (May 15) announced former WWE Cruiserweight Champ Rich Swann would soon be joining their fold.

Beyond Impact’s usual propensity to sign former WWE talents, Swann’s wife Su Yung works for the promotion. Of course, that will naturally remind some that Swann’s release from The ‘E came after he was arrested on domestic violence charges following an incident with Yung from December 2017 which happened in Gainesville, Florida. Charges were dropped when prosecutors determined they had insufficient evidence to proceed, but by that point, he and WWE had already come to terms on his release.
He then publicly contemplated retirement leading up to his return to the independent circuit, but recently returned again. He’s been working with Court Bauer’s MLW recently, but it’s not clear if that will continue, as even the more relaxed policies of Impact under Callis and D’Amore may not allow wrestlers to work for other televised promotions.
The dates Impact is promoting for Swann are with Border City Wrestling, one of the indies they’re partnering with more and more under the direction of Don Callis and Scott D’Amore. But unlike the recent appearance by James Ellsworth in California (Swann has worked for Impact in a similar capacity already, as well), however, this is a taping for their weekly Pop TV show. And that it’s over two days would point to his getting more involved in ongoing storylines than Ellsworth did.
Talent-wise, the high-flying Baltimore native is a great fight for Impact’s X-Division.
