It’s the only match announced for All In on Sept. 1, but it might be one of the smartest things Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks have done for their self-financed event in Chicago.
Bringing in the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), and the team behind it – Billy Corgan and Dave Lagana – not only brings some more promotional know-how to the show, but also a storytelling vehicle beyond Being The Elite.
Cody’s shot at the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship not only gives All In a title match, it provides Cody with an angle that can play out on multiple YouTube shows. That starts on the latest episode of Ten Pounds of Gold, the NWA’s series about the promotion, its belt and current champ Nick Aldis. And in addition to showcasing the All In press conference, Corgan’s role at it and Rhodes’ historic connection to one of the most famous straps in wrestling history, it also sets up some dramatic tension.
See, Aldis isn’t under contract to any company, as the NWA functions in kayfabe as a governing body. So he still needs to agree to the match, something he’s hinting he won’t do.
Check it out above and let us know what you think.
Does partnering with the NWA, or this angle, make you more excited about All In?
